Much cheaper than commercial varieties and more fun!
Ingredients
- 200g fine oats
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted (or any other mild flavoured oil)
- 1 tablespoon runny honey or maple syrup
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Other ingredients, as liked: 100g dried fruit. Lots to choose from! Try a combination of your favourites. Chopped apricots/dates/prunes, mango/ apple. Scissors may be easier than a knife! Or raisins, currants and sultanas. 50g chopped nuts and seeds of your choice. How about a couple of spoonfuls of 4 seed mix and make up the 50g with chopped Brazil nuts or almond flakes?
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Mix the melted oil with the honey. Add the vanilla or cinnamon.
- In a large bowl, weigh out the oats.
- Stir the oil mix into the oats until they start to clump together.
- Turn the granola out onto a baking tray and spread it out.
- Bake for 15 minutes, giving it a good stir half way through.
- Remove from the oven when it is cool.
- Tip it a large clean bowl.
- Add other ingredients of your choice.
- Store in an airtight container.
