This delicious cake recipe is full of festive spices so would make a perfect addition to the extra supplies required for hungry seasonal visitors! Thanks to our wonderful chair Cathy for sharing this recipe.
Ingredients
- 115g margarine
- 200g sugar
- 60g melted plain chocolate buttons plus additional for decorating
- 2 eggs (yolks and whites separated)
- 170g self raising flour
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon mixed spice
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- 8 tablespoons milk
Method
- Cream together margarine and sugar
- Blend in melted chocolate and egg yolks
- Mix flour and spices then blend into mixture alternately with milk
- Whisk egg whites to stiff peaks and fold into mixture
- Spoon mixture into 20 cm (8 inch) square cake tin
- Bake for about 45 minutes
- While the cake is cooling on rack, put chocolate buttons all over the top of the cake. Spread them when melted, then leave to set.
