About Us
Who we are and why we do what we do.
Our Strategy
We have developed four strategic goals to support our Vision of our community enjoying sustainable, ethical food and household products and to achieve our Mission of change.
Our Values
We are an organic co-operative and strive to take an ethical approach to managing our business.
Our PEOPLE
People are drawn to True Food for an amazing variety of reasons. The one which unites them all is a desire for good food. There is also a great variety in what people gain from True Food and what they bring to the venture.
We are a big team and operations are split across three distinct groups of people: members, committee and staff; there is some overlap between these groups.
Our SUPPLIERS
Wherever possible, we buy our products from local suppliers and producers, or ones that have positive social benefits, and/or a Fairtrade source.
We have a very different relationship with our suppliers than supermarkets. In line with our not-for-profit ethos, for fresh produce, we buy directly from the grower whenever possible.
How it all began
True Food Co-op is a not-for-profit community shop which sells local, ethical, wholesome and organic food, toiletries and household goods.
It began in 1999 when a small group of like-minded people wanted to buy organic and sustainable food in Reading. It’s now a busy shop that provides a relaxed and personal shopping experience.
True Food is a cooperative, owned and run by its members. Many customers become members and volunteer their time to help run the shop and business.
