Brown basmati is a long grain rice with a nutty flavour and slightly chewy texture when cooked. It is a wholegrain and is high in fibre. It makes a good accompaniment to any dish you might have with white rice, but also goes well in rice salads as it is less starchy when cooked.

Preparation
Allow approximately 60g rice per person. Start by rinsing the rice under cold water to remove any dust and excess starch. Add to a large saucepan with approximately 250ml water per 60g rice. Bring to the boil and stir initially to prevent any grains sticking to the bottom of the pan. Simmer for about 25 minutes until soft through but still keeping its shape well. Drain and leave to stand for a few minutes before serving.
